Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid: Match preview

Real Madrid are primed and ready to end the season with more trophies to add to their bulging collection, and a victory on Friday night would take them another step closer to lifting the La Liga title.

However, with such a lead at the top of the table and a huge European tie coming up next week, some rotation is in order, and Los Blancos might not fire as efficiently as they have throughout the majority of 2023–24.

Their hosts have their own European aspirations to keep them focused during the run-in, but Madrid should pick up three more points and edge themselves even closer to a 36th La Liga title.

Ancelotti’s side recorded a 3-2 victory over FC Barcelona in El Clasico last weekend, as Jude Bellingham struck another injury-time winner to take his side 11 points clear of their arch-rivals Barcelona with just six matches left.

However, injuries and rotation concerns loom large for Los Blancos with key players like Rodrygo and Ferland Mendy sidelined. Jude Bellingham will finally be available for this game after initially not making the list due to illness.

Real Sociedad, on the other hand, heads into the match with a five-game unbeaten streak, displaying resilience and determination. Sitting sixth in the La Liga standings, they are fiercely vying for a Europa League spot.

The return of Igor Zubeldia and Martin Zubimendi from suspension strengthens their squad, providing their manager, Imanol Alguacil, with additional options.

The absence of Hamari Traore and Brais Mendez due to injuries is a blow for Real Sociedad, but they will look to capitalize on their home advantage and their previous victory over Real Madrid in the corresponding fixture last season.

Alvaro Odriozola’s inclusion at right back and the potential involvement of Takefusa Kubo against his former club add further intrigue to Sociedad’s lineup.

Real Madrid are not expected to be at full strength for this match; however, despite missing some key players, they boast an impressive away record, making them a formidable opponent for any team.

However, Real Sociedad away is always a tough match, regardless of their form and position in the table. Real Madrid will want to get through the contest unscathed ahead of their Champions League semi-final clash against Bayern Munich.
