A pair of La Liga clubs are ready to do battle over the signature of an up-and-coming member of the attacking ranks at Real Madrid, ahead of the close of the transfer window.

That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards Álvaro Rodríguez as the player in demand.

Frontman Rodríguez is widely expected to secure a departure from Real Madrid before the summer is out.

As much comes with the 20-year-old, fresh off a season which saw him secure top scorer status with Los Blancos’ Castilla outfit, aware that his path to first-team minutes at the Santiago Bernabéu is blocked.

Rodríguez, as a result, has emerged as a target for a number of Spanish football’s leading clubs.

And, with just three days remaining in the transfer window, two such clubs have positioned themselves at the front of the queue.

As per a report from Diario AS, Getafe and Real Sociedad ‘are fighting’ for the signature of the young Spaniard.

The former were previously considered the frontrunners to strike a deal, but Sociedad, amid their own search for fresh blood up top, ‘have entered strongly with a more interesting offer’.

The race remains wide open, with a further update on the saga expected over the coming 24 hours.
