Real Sociedad are preparing for life without Mikel Merino. The Euro 2024 winner is to be cashed in on this summer, given that his contract expires in 2025. Barcelona, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid are all interested in signing him.

Merino’s sale should bring in €20-25m for La Real, and that money could be used immediately on his replacement. According to Diario AS, Javi Guerra is a leading target, and initial talks have already taken place with Valencia.

Valencia are prepared to make a big sale this summer, and Guerra could be that. It’s expected that the 21-year-old rising star would cost a very similar amount to Merino.

Girona have already had two offers for Guerra rejected, and they are considering a third. However, Real Sociedad would surely be able to pay more, given that they are also about to receive €30m for the sale of Robin Le Normand, whose move to Atletico Madrid should be finalised in the next few days.
