Real Sociedad head coach Imanol has this afternoon provided an update on the wellbeing of star man Mikel Oyarzabal.

Oyarzabal, for his part, was forced into a premature departure from Sociedad’s La Liga meeting with Girona at the beginning of the month.

And the winger, an absolutely vital member of Imanol’s squad, has since gone on to miss La Real’s ensuing fixures against all of Mallorca (twice), Osasuna, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Amid a stretch of just one win in six across all competitions, it is therefore safe to say that all associated with Sociedad were no doubt awaiting a fresh update on their side’s captain with bated breath.

And, as alluded to above, on Thursday, precisely that has been forthcoming.

Unfortunately for the Basque outfit, however, it has not exactly shed much light on Oyarzabal’s likely return date.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s La Liga clash with Villarreal on Friday, the aforementioned Imanol was asked for an update on his star attacker’s fitness.

And La Real’s boss went on to admit that, whilst Oyarzabal has been diagnosed with a thigh injury, ‘not even the medical staff knows when he will return’:

“It’s nothing to worry about, Imanol began, as cited by Mundo Deportivo. “We had new news on Monday, another MRI was done. At first he had pain in one place but once that pain went away, a small injury appeared that was done on the same play. It hurt and it was so swollen that he was not able to feel the other injury. It is in the femoral biceps. He is already running. Today is his first training session running on the green. We will have to see how he develops. Tomorrow he will try to touch the ball. We have to be cautious. I don’t know when he will be back. He tried it in Paris and ended up with pain. Now not even the medical staff knows when he will return. It’s like Elustondo’s finger. It’s very difficult.”
