Having already lured Dean Huijsen, Real Madrid have a stable centre-back department ahead of the new season and are well covered in the position with the likes of David Alaba, Eder Militao, Raul Asencio and Antonio Rudiger all eligible candidates.
Looking towards the medium term, however, Los Blancos see the need for a new centre-back and Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate has stood out as an option to them in recent months.
With his contract running out next summer, the Merengues have planned to wait for a year and sign him on a free transfer as they have done for several deals in recent years. Now, however, the situation could be changing.
As relayed by AS in a recent report, there is now a possibility that Liverpool will allow Konate to leave late this summer, especially given that they are close to signing additional players in the department in Marc Guehi and Giovanni Leoni.

The Reds indeed are keen on renewing Konate’s deal but the player has his mind fixed on Real Madrid and the probability of an agreement being reached is thus low.
A move this summer, thus, will at least enable Liverpool to get a return on their investment in the player. As such, the possibility of Real Madrid launching a late swoop for the Frenchman is very much on the cards.
The Merengues, however, will not make an offer exceeding €20 to €25 million and it remains to be seen if a deal can be worked out. As it stands, the option is growing in weight.
While the Frenchman has already said yes to Real Madrid, PSG are also interested in him and Los Blancos must ensure that they do enough to lure him this summer should he be available.
Konate is moving closer to the Spanish capital, but the Merengues must be prepared to pay out a sum if that’s what it takes to sign him this summer.
