After a dominant first-half performance, the hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time. A short corner finds its way to Vinicius Jr. who whips in a low testing cross that evades every player in the box before nestling in the bottom corner.

Momentum swung towards the visitors after the break as Kike García, found by Unai Garcia’s early cross from the right flank, rose above Antonio Rüdiger and planted his header into the top corner to draw Osasuna level.

Not two minutes later and García spurned a guilt edge chance to inflict further damage to Real Madrid but as the cross was fired across the face of the goal, the Spanish striker could only divert the ball wide.

Real Madrid regained the ascendency but struggled to create many clear-cut opportunities as Rodrygo fired high from close range before they were given a golden opportunity when Benzema, on his return from injury, was brought down in the penalty area.

David Garcia was shown a red card for the challenge but the French international fired the subsequent penalty off the crossbar. Benzema then had the ball in the back of the net a minute later but the goal was ruled out for a marginal offside.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side continued to push to a winning goal as second-half substitute Mariano and Benzema both came close but, in the end, spoils were shared as Real join Barcelona at the top of the table on 19 points.
