Toni Kroos has hinted that he would be open to a new contract with Real Madrid, and may not retire after this summer’s European Championship.
Kroos recently came out of international retirement and is in the current Germany squad for the upcoming friendlies with France and the Netherlands, as the hosts build towards the Euros on home soil.
The 34-year-old’s current deal with Real Madrid is set to expire at the end of June, and there have been suggestions that he could bow out on his career after one last summer tournament hurrah for his country.
But speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, the veteran midfielder suggested that he could play on next season, be it at Real Madrid or elsewhere.
“I didn’t think about that,” he said, when asked whether he will retire from international football again after the Euros.
“Many things are not clear about what will happen after the Euros. I don’t even have a club contract for next season yet. I would have to clarify that first.”
Kroos joined Los Blancos from Bayern Munich in 2014 and has since helped the club to three LaLiga titles, four Champions Leagues and a host of other trophies.
This season he has so far made 38 appearances for the Spanish giants and remains a key member of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.
