A constant with all of the best players in world football is at some point they are inevitably linked with an eventual move to Real Madrid. That has been happening year in and year out as players prove their pedigree. Now, arguably Manchester City’s most important player, Rodri, has been named as Real Madrid’s latest big-name transfer target. But the reported interest in City’s midfield general is the ultimate compliment to the Spanish international.

Spanish publication AS has reported that Real Madrid is targeting Rodri as a ‘big fish signing’ in 2025. Furthermore, AS reports that the European Champions are looking at City’s midfield general as a potential replacement for Toni Kroos. Lastly, AS adds that Rodri is only considering two options. Signing a contract extension with Manchester City or advancing with a move to La Liga giants.

However unlikely a move to Real Madrid appears for Rodri is it the ultimate compliment to the Spanish international. During his time at Manchester City he has risen to become arguably the world’s best midfielder. His performances for both club and country have been pivotal to their success. There’s an argument to be had that without the midfield lynchpin in City’s and Spain’s midfield both wouldn’t have enjoyed the success they have in recent years.

But for Manchester City Rodri has proven to be pivotal in their recent success. He is integral to Pep Guardiola’s side. His performances and vital goals have seen him cement his place on Manchester City folklore. Real Madrid’s reported interest in signing him just further validates his standing at Manchester City.

The hope is that in time Rodri will sign a contract extension with the world champions. That would keep Real Madrid’s interest at bay and be a fitting reward for his play for Manchester City.
