With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Real Madrid’s all-time XI.
Today we’re choosing the left-back.
Here are the nominees …
There’s a fair argument to say that Marcelo is the best bargain signing in modern European football. The Brazilian joined from Fluminense in 2007 and only this season has his place in the Real Madrid starting XI been under threat. The best in the world in his position for a decade.
A winner of five European Cups in the 1950s, Lesmes was a totemic presence at left-back playing over 150 times for the club over eight years.
Who else? Genuinely redefined what it meant to be a left-back in the 1990s, winning five LaLiga titles, three Champions Leagues and scoring one in a thousand free kicks.
Here’s how the team is looking so far …
GK: Iker Casillas RB: Michel Salgado LB: Roberto Carlo
Check back tomorrow and Monday when we will be choosing Real Madrid’s greatest ever … centre-backs.
