With the football on hold at the moment, we’ve been thinking about who gets in Real Madrid’s all-time XI.
Today we’re choosing the goalkeeper.
Here are the nominees …
Between the posts for a decade between 1986 and 1996, winning five LaLiga titles and two Copa del Reys.
A stunning shot-stopper with cat-like agility and an expert command of his area. Truly one of a kind.
Whichever goalkeeper keeps the most clean sheets in LaLiga during the season gets given the Zamora Trophy.
That should tell you everything you need to know about Ricardo Zamora who spent six years at Real Madrid between 1930 and 1936.
He’s also one of the few players who have starred – and are still popular – at both Madrid and Barcelona.
Debut at 17, European Cup winner by 19, five LaLiga titles, three Champions Leagues in total, over 500 games for Real Madrid and a proper club legend.
Iker Casillas was a one-of-a-kind goalkeeper. Only just six foot but a colossus between the posts, a shot-stopper extraordinaire and a brilliant captain.
Los Blancos were lucky to have him for 16 years.
Check back tomorrow when we will be choosing Real Madrid’s greatest ever … right-back.
