According to Jorge Picon, Real Madrid’s young goalkeeper, Lucas Canizares, is on the brink of making a significant move in his career, with his next destination likely to be in either France or Portugal.

This transition comes after a period of intense speculation and interest from various clubs. Although the decision regarding his future is not expected to be finalised this week, sources indicate that substantial progress could be made as early as next week.

There were offers from Spanish teams too

Interestingly, a few Spanish clubs initially showed the most interest in the young talent, but the emergence of offers from international clubs has shifted the focus away from Spain.

This development suggests that France or Portugal is now the most likely destination for the 22-year-old. The final decision about his new team is anticipated to be made next week, but no concrete moves are expected before the market concludes.

Throughout this season, Lucas Canizares has demonstrated impressive skills, conceding 33 goals in 29 matches and establishing himself as a regular starter for the youth team and his performances have caught the attention of multiple clubs.

His father is negotiating with other teams

Santi Canizares, the goalkeeper’s father and former goalkeeper for Real Madrid and Valencia, is playing a crucial role in managing his son’s career moves.

While Santi is actively negotiating with interested clubs, he does not sign contracts on behalf of his son, as he lacks the necessary qualifications for such responsibilities.

Instead, he focuses on discussions with club representatives and handles the negotiation process.

Interestingly, Canizares is not the only goalkeeper set to leave Real Madrid. Mario de Luis, who was Raul’s first-choice goalkeeper at Castilla over the past two seasons, is also expected to depart.

The plan is to make room for upcoming talents such as Diego Pineiro, who is anticipated to take on a larger role this season, and Fran Gonzalez, who is highly sought after as a potential starter at Castilla.
