Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez wants José Mourinho to return to the club following his sacking by Manchester United.

That’s according to The Independent, who claim Pérez sees Mourinho as the perfect manager to oversee Madrid’s planned rebuilding project and restore the club to its former glory.

Mourinho previously spent three seasons in charge at the Bernabéu, during which time he won the 2012 LaLiga title and the 2011 Copa del Rey.

However, the 55-year-old was involved in high-profile feuds with players such as Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo and he was sacked in May 2013 after what he described as “the worst season of my career”.

But Pérez is reportedly not overly concerned about Mourinho’s relationship with some of the Los Blancos players and with the club planning to overhaul an ageing squad in the summer, there is a possibility that the likes of Ramos and Marcelo could be moved on.

Santiago Solari has been in charge of Madrid since Julen Lopetegui’s sacking at the end of October but a series of underwhelming results and performances means the Argentine is unlikely to be offered the job on a long-term basis.
