Pep Guardiola’s side have first-leg deficit to overcome after late drama in Manchester

Manchester City must come from behind if they are to stun Real Madrid and avoid a play-off defeat in the Champions League. A brace from Erling Haaland had left City on the verge of victory at the Etihad Stadium a week ago, but Brahim Diaz equalised against his former club and Jude Bellingham then struck deep into stoppage-time to win it 3-2 for the visitors.

It leaves Pep Guardiola’s side with a mountain to climb as they look to once again being knocked out by Real, as they were last season. City bounced back from their first-leg defeat with a dominant win over Newcastle over the weekend, in what was one of their most complete displays of the campaign, and they must now carry that momentum to Madrid. Erling Haaland limped off in the closing stages against Newcastle, but is expected to be fit.

Bellingham was sent off for Real in LaLiga for dissent on Saturday, but that suspension does not apply in Europe and he is available to feature. The winner of this tie will go through to the last-16 to face either Atletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen. Follow all the action with Standard Sport’s LIVE blog below!

Standard Sport prediction

Another classic is in store between Real Madrid and Manchester City tonight.

It’s a tough ask for Pep Guardiola’s side to overturn a 3-2 deficit at the home of the holders and despite a convincing win at the weekend, there are still question marks over City defensively - as the first-leg proved.

Man City will need to commit players forward as they must win the game to progress and that gameplan favours Real Madrid who have stars such sa Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo and Jude Bellingham that thrive in transition.

Early Man City team news

Pep Guardiola has confirmed all of Erling Haaland, Jack Grealish, Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake are in the squad for Wednesday's showdown.

Haaland came off against Newcastle, while the other three all missed the game.

However, City’s ranks have been boosted by their returns.

“Yes they have travelled, we will see tomorrow but it's good they are here,” he said.

UEFA suspension rules explained with Real Madrid and Man City stars at risk of Champions League ban

Real Madrid and Manchester City lock horns once again on Wednesday night.

The two European giants met in the Champions League for a fourth consecutive season last week as the current holders emerged victorious in an highly entertaining knockout phase playoff first-leg.

Taking a 3-2 lead back to the Santiago Bernabeu, Los Blancos will be slight favourites to reach the last-16 potentially setting up an all-Madrid tie against Atletico.

Ancelotti disagrees with Guardiola prognosis

Carlo Ancelotti claims Pep Guardiola cannot really think Manchester City have only a "one per cent" chance of turning their Champions League tie against Real Madrid around.

City boss Guardiola said at the weekend his side's hopes of fighting back in the second leg of their play-off at the Bernabeu Stadium on Wednesday, after losing 3-2 to the holders in Manchester, were that slim.

"He doesn't really think so," said Real coach Ancelotti at a press conference. "We don't think we have a 99% chance. We have a small advantage and we have to take advantage of it.

"We have to play the same game as in the first leg, because it went well, but we have to take into account the difficulties. We are trying to prepare well."

Early Real Madrid team news

Antonio Rudiger is fit to start for Real Madrid in a major boost, having missed the first leg.

He is likely to start alongside Raul Asencio, although the right-back could have to shift out to right-back if Federico Valverde, who picked up a minor issue over the weekend, misses out.

Jude Bellingham is available despite his LaLiga red card against Osasuna, with that suspension only applying for domestic matches.
