Luka Modric’s recent performance against Girona was yet another indicator as to why the veteran midfielder is still a crucial piece of the Real Madrid pie.
Despite being 39, Modric has shown he is still capable of performing consistently at the highest level of football, which begs the question: Should the midfielder continue for another year at Real Madrid?
The Croat’s current deal at Santiago Bernabeu expires at the end of the season, but a prolonged stay at the club cannot be ruled out.
A recent report from Jorge Picon has indicated that Modric, for his part, is more than prepared to continue for another year at the Bernabeu.
It appears the veteran midfielder feels he is ready and capable to play at the highest level at least for another year. In fact, he wants to continue at Real Madrid until he turns 40.

This corroborates earlier reports which have also indicated that the Croat wants to remain at Real Madrid despite his contract expiring in the summer.
However, this doesn’t necessarily mean Real Madrid will hand the midfielder a contract renewal this season.
In the past, the club have considered the possibility of letting go of the Croatian in order to pave the way for younger midfielders.
But given the way how players such as Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga have struggled with form and fitness, keeping hold of Modric for another year might not be such a bad idea.
