Recent reports suggesting that Real Madrid defender David Alaba could be forced into early retirement due to a persistent injury have been firmly refuted.

Indeed, The Austrian international, who has been sidelined for an extended period, is focused on his recovery and return to the pitch, with retirement nowhere on his radar, reports Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.

Alaba not considering retirement

Alaba’s ACL injury, which has kept him out of action for nearly eleven months, has been a source of concern for both the club and fans.

The crux of his problem stems from reduced cartilage, which has complicated his recovery process, with his return schedule getting postponed at every step.

This prolonged absence had led to speculation about potential career-ending implications, with some outlets suggesting that Alaba might be forced to hang up his boots prematurely.

However, these claims have been branded as baseless. As per the report, retirement “was never a topic” for Alaba, emphasising that the 31-year-old defender remains committed to his rehabilitation and eventual return to competitive football.

Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has also weighed in on the situation, offering an optimistic outlook on Alaba’s recovery. In a recent press conference, he stated:

“We have youth players who can contribute, the return of Alaba, who will soon be with the team…. At the moment we are not thinking of making any signings.”

This statement not only reinforces the club’s faith in Alaba’s recovery but also indicates that Real Madrid are not looking to replace him in the transfer market.

The news will come as a relief to Real Madrid supporters, who have missed Alaba’s presence in the team’s backline.

Known for his versatility and leadership on the pitch, the Austrian’s return could significantly bolster Real Madrid’s defensive options amid ongoing depth issues.

As Alaba continues his rehabilitation, the focus now shifts to his eventual return date. While no specific timeline has been provided, the fact that he has been doing individual training suggests he could be back in the foreseeable future.
