Despite being 39 years of age, Luka Modric continues to prove himself an essential part of this Real Madrid team. He has played in all six La Liga matches and the one UEFA Champions League match for the Merengues up to now, and his presence has been vital for Ancelotti after the departure of Toni Kroos and the injuries to some other important midfielders.
The Croat once again captained his side to a victory and helped keep Real Madrid in control of the proceedings with his contributions in the midfield.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, he also spoke to Real Madrid TV after the match and showed his happiness with this win.
The midfielder praised the team’s ability to react after going a goal down and believed this victory would provide even more confidence to Los Blancos for upcoming matches:
“We played a good match, especially in the second half. It’s hard for us to score in the first half, but we created many chances. Today, we were very good with and without the ball. This match will give us confidence to keep improving.”
“The team played very well, and we had a complete match from start to finish. In the first half, it was a bit difficult for us to find the goal, but we played very well. Physicality and quality are key against teams that sit back. They scored first, but we didn’t let that get us down and continued to play.”
The veteran Croat also explained how Real Madrid have been able to go 38 matches without a defeat in La Liga:
“It says a lot not to lose matches for so many rounds, but we need to keep going. This comes down to the character, quality, and commitment of the team. Moreover, everyone is prepared when it’s their turn to play; those are the keys.”
Modric played the full 90 minutes in this match, and also expressed his happiness on being able to do so:
“I’m very happy to play 90 minutes. I feel very good physically and mentally.”
The Real Madrid legend is not showing any signs of slowing down even at this advanced age. Hopefully, he will be able to put all his experience and skills there for the team and help them get another few trophies at the end of the season.
