Real Madrid were forced to dig deep to secure a draw against Bayern Munich on Tuesday night at the Allianz Arena. In the end, a brace from Vinicius Jr helped level the score on aggregate at 2-2, and there is everything to play for at the Santiago Bernabeu next week.

Last night’s clash, in many ways, was a game of records with Vinicius becoming only the fourth player to score in three consecutive semifinals.

He was not the only Real Madrid star to script history on the night, however, as Luka Modric broke a long-standing historic record as well.

The oldest ever

Coming on for Jude Bellingham in the 75th minute on the night, Modric became the oldest player ever to have donned the prestigious white colour jersey in the UEFA Champions League match.

The record, to date, was held by the legendary Ferenc Puskas who stepped onto the field at 38 years and 229 days of age against Kilmarnock in the European Cup.

Modric, last night, shattered that record at 38 years and 234 days.

Moreover, the legend also surpassed Roberto Carlos to become the player with the 14th most appearances for the club with 527 games played and also the fifth most in the UCL.

Renewal on the cards

As revealed earlier today, Real Madrid have opted to offer the veteran star a one-year renewal at the club in light of his special performances.

Despite vacillating for long, the decision now seems to be made. With Modric sailing the same boat on the renewal front, negotiations will likely not be complicated.

If everything goes to plan, Modric’s renewal could be announced in the coming weeks, and offers from MLS, Saudi Arabia and Croatia will likely have to wait another year to acquire his services.
