Almeria had a rotten 2023-24 campaign, as they laboured to relegation from La Liga. The Andalusians’ fate was confirmed with weeks to spare, and they will now aim for immediate promotion from Segunda next season – and it seems that they will do so with Sergio Arribas at their disposal.
Arribas was one of the shining lights for Almeria last season, as he amassed nine goals and four assists in La Liga – that was despite not being a regular starter. That wouldn’t be the case in Segunda, as new manager Rubi intends to count on him as a key player.
As reported by Relevo, Almeria have decided that they will not sell Arribas this summer, unless an unrejectable offer arrives. The 22-year-old, who had been linked with Sevilla among others, had accepted that he will not leave, and he already preparing for life in Segunda.
Keeping Arribas is fantastic news for Almeria, and their chances of returning to La Liga in 2025-26. It’s not particularly good for Real Madrid, who would have hoped for the activation of the 50% sell-on clause that they retained from last summer’s deal.
