While Real Madrid managed to get vital transfers like Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham’s over the line, they have also fallen short on some big targets in recent years.

While Leny Yoro was the big miss last summer, they also fell short in their pursuit of Alphonso Davies as the Canadian ended up signing an extension with Bayern Munich.

Despite initially throwing out promising signs over arriving as a free agent, the Bayern Munich star renewed his deal in Germany and is thus no longer an option to reinforce the left-back position.

A new candidate

Now, as relayed in a recent update by Bernabeu Digital, Real Madrid have their eyes on AC Milan star and former Real Madrid player Theo Hernandez as a strong option to strengthen the left-back department.

Hernandez, after all, wishes to renew with AC Milan on terms that will see him become the highest-paid player in the squad, but the Rossoneri are not even close to meeting his demands or accepting a renewal.

The Italian side is looking to part ways with him and all signs point to a certain departure next summer.

With his contract ending next year, AC Milan already tried selling him to Como in January for €40 million but the player rejected the move as he hoped for a more established club to join.

Given that he will be on the final year of his contract in June, Real Madrid can look to swoop in and sign him for a fee far less than that offered by Como. After all, he is familiar with the environment at Santiago Bernabeu and would be a good fit.

The only question, however, is how much of an upgrade he will be over the existing options of Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia. After all, he is not as big of an attacking powerhouse as the club’s previous target Davies.
