Even though Dani Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez are going strong this season, Real Madrid need to start thinking about the future and put a succession plan in place for the right-back slot.

It has given way to links to players such as Yan Couto of Manchester City, currently on loan at Girona, as well as Liverpool superstar Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires in 2025.

Another name that appears to be on the agenda at the Real Madrid offices is that of Bayer Leverkusen ace Jeremie Frimpong.

Real Madrid, Man United following Jeremie Frimpong

Indeed, as per journalist Rudy Galetti, Real Madrid are following Jeremie Frimpong, who is a target for Premier League bigwigs Manchester United for the summer.

Frimpong, 23, has been a big success at Leverkusen since joining them from Celtic back in 2021. The Dutchman has taken his game up a notch under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso.

In fact, Frimpong was one of Leverkusen’s most crucial players as they won the Bundesliga title for the first time ever this past weekend.

The former Manchester City academy man has made 38 appearances in all competitions for Die Werkself this season, racking up 12 goals and 11 assists in the process.

Real Madrid appreciate Frimpong, but as has been reported previously, there are some doubts about the defensive facets of his game.

Frimpong has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen that runs until the summer of 2028 and the German champions will be reluctant to sell one of their key assets right after winning the title.

However, it is believed that there is a €40 million release clause in his contract which will be in force this summer which Real Madrid could trigger if they intend to sign him.
