Sport Bild reports that Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is looking to take the next step in his career in the summer and Real Madrid are leading the way to land his signature.
Wirtz would like to move to a world-class club next summer and Leverkusen will demand a fee of at least €150m for their talisman as they look to be able to afford his replacement. This means that the clubs that can afford the 21-year-old is a very exclusive group.
Bayern Munich are said to have held a long-standing interest in Wirtz and even tried to hold a meeting with him back in 2022 but instead, he opted to extend his contract at the BayArena. While Manchester City and Real Madrid are also interested in Wirtz meaning it will likely be difficult for Bayern to compete financially with City and Madrid.
Madrid are said to be leading the way for Wirtz and this could also be linked to the future of head coach Xabi Alonso, who has also been linked with a move to the Spanish capital in the past. A decision on his future is expected to be made in the Spring.
