Erling Haaland is rightly considered to be one of the hottest upcoming players in the world of football. The Norwegian star has already made himself comfortable at Manchester City and is breaking records for fun in the Premier League.

Real Madrid missed out on the youngster’s signing in the summer of 2021 when Haaland opted to sign for Pep Guardiola’s side over Los Blancos.

However, it is well known that the men in white are still actively in pursuit of the young star and are eyeing his arrival next summer.

Haaland’s agent clarifies her words

Speaking about her client earlier this year, Haaland’s agent Rafaela Pimienta called him one capable of being football’s first €1 billion worth player.

The number left clubs across the world, including Real Madrid, startled for it was a far stretch even in the inflated market.

“I tell you not how much he costs, but how much he is worth: he will be the first footballer to be worth a billion. Think of the turnover he generates, at only 22 years old,” she said.

As revealed earlier today, she made her words from six months ago clearer by elaborating on what she meant by the statement. She outright denied the theory that Haaland’s release clause was set at €1 billion, and explained herself saying,

“After my statement, I read rumours talking about a €1 billion release clause that Real Madrid would have set for a player [referencing Rodrygo].

“In any case, for Erling, I wasn’t referring only to his transfer fee but to everything that revolves around him: clubs, sponsors, jerseys. Certainly, Haaland’s journey will reach these figures,” she told Calciomercato (h/t AS).

She then emphasised that the ‘clause’ in the player’s contract was only a reference number for any interested party. A transfer, preferably, would come after negotiation rather than triggering a clause.

“Regarding the clause, it’s a way for the clubs to say, ‘I decide,’ but I believe that if we want a calm future, we must engage in dialogue.”

Real Madrid’s objective

As revealed last week, Los Blancos have everything ready for a Galactico signing next summer.

The president is convinced that the team needs one more big name in the final third, and Haaland’s name has been growing in prominence once again in recent weeks.

The club have made room on the wage front and have as much as €393 million across various financial sources to fund any such move.

Needless to say, the new Santiago Bernabeu will only help inject any more finance required.
