Real Madrid will play hosts to RCD Mallorca at the Santiago Bernabeu later today as they resume their La Liga campaign after the mid-season break.
Los Blancos are currently seated atop the La Liga standings, although Girona are tied on points with them in second place.
One of the major reasons behind Real Madrid’s strong position in the table has been Jude Bellingham.
Having arrived in the summer, the England international has become the talisman for the Merengues, leading the way in terms of goal contributions and excelling his all-round game.
Someone who gives it his all on the pitch, Bellingham will need to operate a bit more cautiously in tonight’s match against Mallorca.
This is because the 20-year-old midfielder has accumulated four yellow cards in La Liga and another booking tonight would earn him an automatic one-match suspension.
That would entail him sitting out of the next La Liga clash against Almeria on January 21.
It would not be the most ideal scenario for Real Madrid, considering how close things are at the top of the table. It must be noted that Los Blancos will not be playing in La Liga in the next matchday due to their involvement in the Spanish Super Cup.
Even though Vinicius Jr. is back, having someone of Bellingham’s ilk always available is important, more so when things are so tight in the title race.
As such, Carlo Ancelotti & co. will hope that the former Borussia Dortmund ace does not end up getting booked in today’s game.
