The Spanish footballing association has once again been gripped with complaints of racism across football stadiums and the authority’s inability to take prompt action against it.

Vinicius Jr., in particular, has been quite vocal against the footballing federation. After all, the Real Madrid superstar has been the subject of racial insults time and time again over the past few years.

The most recent incident came on the weekend when a Sevilla fan insulted Vinicius from the stands. The player, though, was quite happy with the way Sevilla dealt with the situation and took action against the supporter.

However, in the most recent game against Braga, in the UEFA Champions League, Vinicius, despite suffering no racial intolerance, was the subject of a rather unusual attack from one of the members of the Barça board.

Mikel Camps on Vinicius: “It’s not racism”

During the game, Mikel Camps, the deputy spokesperson of the Barcelona board of members, launched an attack on Vinicius after being left frustrated by his on-field actions.

“It’s not racism, he deserves a slap for being a clown and a joker. What do these unnecessary and meaningless bicycles represent in the centre of the field?” he tweeted (h/t MARCA).

Camps was referring to Vinicius trying to showboat against Braga. At one point, the Brazilian tried to static dribbles against the opposition defender Serdar, without any proper output.

Mikel Camps launched a scathing attack against the Real Madrid star only a few days before the Clasico, making sure to mention all the racist intolerance the player has suffered in the past.

Tweet deleted

Given the crass nature of his comment, Mikel Camps was quick to delete the tweet, minutes after he had made it.

However, by the time he deleted it, several media channels across Spain had already taken a screenshot.

Camps’ tweet is not a good look for Barcelona’s image, and it will be interesting to see how the club deal with the situation.
