Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham has officially begun his road to recovery after undergoing shoulder surgery in London on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old midfielder had been managing a persistent shoulder issue since late 2023, but delayed the procedure to prioritise his commitments with both Real Madrid and the England national team.

According to the club, the operation was performed by renowned surgeons Manuel Leyes and Andrew Wallace, with the procedure closely monitored by Real Madrid’s Medical Services.

The surgery took place at the Fortius Clinic, one of the top medical centres in London, known for treating elite athletes.

Bellingham’s message after surgery

Bellingham shared his first post-surgery update with fans on Friday via Instagram.

In his post, he thanked the medical team involved and expressed his gratitude for the support he has received during this difficult period.

“Thank you to Andrew Wallace and Susan Alexander, their team and everyone at Fortius Clinic for the surgery and hospitality.

“To Ivan Ortega and Dr Leyes for travelling to support. And finally, to everyone else for all the well wishes and messages of love.

The process to come back has already started. See you soon,” he wrote.

How long will he be out?

The recovery timeline for Bellingham is expected to be around 10 to 12 weeks, meaning he will likely miss the first two months of the 2025/26 season.

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso will have to manage without one of his most important midfielders until at least mid-October.

Real Madrid remain hopeful that Bellingham will return fully fit in October, ready to take on the remainder of the season at full strength.

For now, the focus is on his recovery and rehabilitation, with both club and player determined to ensure a smooth return to action.
