Real Madrid superstar reflects on his El Clasico debut – ‘That day was meant to be for me’ | OneFootball

Jude Bellingham is a name on everyone’s lips right now, with former Real Madrid player Guti notably backing the Englishman to be one of the leading candidates for Ballon d’Or.

Having recently made his return from injury, Bellingham is all set for the new season and his presence could go a long way in helping Real Madrid recover from a muted start to the campaign.

In his most recent YouTube documentary, Bellingham talked about what it means to play for Real Madrid while recalling his famous El Clasico debut.

Having joined Real Madrid in 2023, Bellingham got his first taste of El Clasico in October last year, as he started against Barcelona.

Bellingham did not disappoint either, bagging a brace that helped Real Madrid secure a narrow 2-1 victory over Xavi’s men.

Recalling his dream El Clasico debut, Bellingham said, “That day was meant to be for me. Without even looking at the goal, I thought what’s the worst that could happen, I’m shooting.”

The Englishman also recalled how it was Barcelona who took the early lead through Ilkay Gundogan, revealing how his teammates reacted to the goal.

“When Barcelona scored the first goal, I started to think that this could get a bit embarrassing, but when I looked around at my teammates, I just saw a sense of calmness, as if they knew something I don’t,” he said.

“When the ball hit the net, all the souls drain out of the stadium, but a tiny little section of Madrid fans start screaming, it made it sound like it was the Bernabéu, because of how quiet the rest went,” he added.

Bellingham went to talk about the Spanish Super Cup, which he won just a few months after his El Clasico debut.

“If you’re in a tournament with Barcelona and Atlético, it doesn’t matter what you’re playing for, as a Real Madrid player the expectation is to win,” he said.

“In the final, we dominated Barcelona from the first minute,” he added. “Winning my first title with Real Madrid will always be special.”

Bellingham eventually ended the season with a whopping tally of 23 goals. But the midfielder clarified that his ‘game is not all about goals’.

The Englishman further revealed that his ‘knowledge of the game is based around kits and boots’. Finally, the youngster offered gratitude for his deal with Adidas, stating, “I’m very lucky to have a relationship with Adidas.”
