In a recent report, Corriere dello Sport has stated that Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz has been offered to West Ham United as they are eager to get him off their wage bill. It is believed that Los Blancos are open to the possibility of letting the Spanish forward go out on ‘loan with a right of redemption’ which could open the door for the Hammers to seal a move for him in January (via Corriere dello Sport).

Mariano’s Mounting Frustrations Under Zidane’s Tutelage

Mariano has only made two matches for the Madrid giants this term, scoring one goal in the process across all competitions. That goal came just after two minutes in last weekend’s league match away at Villarreal but it was not enough for his team to claim all three points.

It has been a lacklustre campaign for Mariano thus far as he has failed to earn regular game time as the focal point of Zinedine Zidane’s first-team. He has also been sidelined for a lot of games because of tonsillitis. His career at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium has been disrupted by multiple injuries.

The 27-year-old participated in seven games for Los Blancos in the previous campaign, netting one goal on all fronts. The likes of Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Luka Jovic and Eden Hazard have all been preferred ahead of him by Zidane in recent weeks.

What Will The Spanish Sensation Bring To The London Stadium?

Despite his lack of strength, Mariano can outjump most defenders as he has got a great leap in him. He can be a threat in the air and has also got the pace to cause a few problems for the opposition centre-backs. However, the Spaniard needs to improve his finishing if he wants to become a household name in European football. Furthermore, his recent injury record makes him a risky acquisition for any top club including the Hammers as it is uncertain whether he can stay healthy and reach his full potential in the coming seasons.

Should Moyes Get Mariano On Board Next Summer?

Moyes has currently got Michail Antonio out injured which has increased his need to sign a new forward this winter. Sebastien Haller has mostly been poor but he managed to score the only goal of the game in the narrow 1-0 win over Sheffield United last weekend. Maybe the ex-Bundesliga striker will build on that performance and finally turn his career around at the London Stadium.

All in all, the Hammers have no room for making risky acquisitions, so they should opt against signing Mariano in January even if it is on a temporary loan deal. Moyes would be better off going for a more proven forward rather than recruiting someone as injury-prone as the Spanish marksman this winter.
