Takefusa Kubo believes he deserves the boos he received from Barcelona’s supporters this weekend.
A former jewel of Barça’s academy, Kubo rejected the chance to return to Catalunya this summer in favour of signing a five-year deal with arch rivals Real Madrid.
The 18-year-old Japanese midfielder is currently on loan at Real Mallorca and was this weekend part of the side thrashed 5-2 by the LaLiga champions at Camp Nou.
And speaking afterwards, Kubo says he had no problem with the jeers he predictably received from the home supporters.
“That’s the decision of the fans,” he said.
“I made my call and they have the right to whistle me. I think I deserve it, although there were people who also applauded me, which gave me courage.
“Does it hurt? No, they have to see me as a rival, not as an 18-year-old boy who plays football pretty well.”
Despite the jeers, Kubo had an excellent game in his side’s defeat and the youngster has so far contributed one goal and two assists in 13 appearances for Mallorca.
