Arda Guler and Dominik Szoboszlai were at the centre of attention during Turkey’s game against Hungary in the UEFA Nations League.

In a game that saw Hungary incur a heavy 3-0 defeat, Szoboszlai and Guler were involved in an on-field spat.

Words were exchanged between the two, with Szoboszlai sparking further controversy by posting a cryptic message on social media, reading, “1,088”.

This was a veiled dig at Guler’s lack of game-time at Real Madrid. After all, the Turkish international has played exactly 1,088 minutes of football for Los Blancos this season, falling behind in the pecking order.

Arda Guler’s response to Szoboszlai

Szoboszlai’s tweet didn’t go well with Guler, who has now issued a response through social media.

The Real Madrid starlet posted a picture on his Instagram story with the captain, “This guy is a joke. Isn’t 6 goals enough to shut you up?”

Guler’s message to Szoboszlai was a reference to Turkey’s 6-1 aggregate win over Hungary, which helped the nation secure promotion to the top tier of UEFA Nations League for the first time ever.

Hungary’s defeat on the night also meant that they have lost to Turkey at home for the first time since 2006.

Keeping that in mind, Guler would certainly have the last laugh, especially considering the fact that he had played a key role in Hungary’s defeat, notably scoring the second goal on the night.

It now remains to be seen whether or not Szoboszlai issues any further response on social media.
