According to a report from COPE, Real Madrid are closely monitoring their goalkeeper, Andriy Lunin, who has not accepted the team’s renewal offer.

The outlet suggests that if he decides to leave, the club will eventually consider bringing back Kepa Arrizabalaga, who spent the previous season on loan.

It is to be noted that Lunin is under contract with Real Madrid until 2025. However, despite having a renewal offer on the table, he is reluctant to remain as the backup to Thibaut Courtois.

This is because Lunin had a strong 2023/24 season, and he feels he has proven himself enough to be a first-choice goalkeeper.

After the Champions League final, it was widely believed that Lunin would seek a new club for the next season.

Despite that, within the team, the current goalkeeping situation is seen as stable. Real Madrid are confident with Courtois as their first-choice goalkeeper and Lunin as the backup.

However, if Lunin decides to leave, the club will need to find another goalkeeper, and this is where Kepa comes into the picture.

Kepa is willing to wait for Real Madrid

It is believed that Kepa is being considered as a potential replacement for Lunin at Real Madrid. Since, Chelsea do not plan to keep him, making a deal with Real Madrid is seemingly straightforward.

However, the situation is complicated by Chelsea’s demand for a hefty €25 million transfer fee, which Real Madrid are unwilling to pay.

At the moment, Kepa is waiting to see what Lunin decides. His main goal is to join Real Madrid, which has led him to put other offers on hold.

Everything depends on Lunin’s decision. While Real Madrid are happy to keep him, his desire to be the starting goalkeeper is causing complications.

If Lunin decides to leave, Real Madrid will have to find a new backup goalkeeper and Kepa is a strong candidate, but the high transfer fee is a major obstacle.

As the situation unfolds, the club will continue to explore its options amidst the fact that Kepa remains hopeful for a move to Real Madrid, but he will need to wait and see how things develop with Lunin.
