A headline member of the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid secured for himself Man of the Match honours on the international front in the early hours of Saturday.
The player in question? Rodrygo.
Versatile frontman Rodrygo is for his part in the midst of something of a disappointing week.
Watching on as no fewer than six of his Real Madrid teammates were nominated for the Ballon d’Or, the 23-year-old was omitted from the shortlist to be named world football’s best player.
Rodrygo was not shy in making his bemusement with as much clear, evidently taken aback by his snub:
As alluded to above, though, the former Santos talent has since responded to as much in the best way possible.
Afforded a start in Brazil’s World Cup qualifying meeting with Ecuador early on Saturday morning, Rodrygo netted the only goal of the game, on the half-hour mark.
Amid a solid all-round display, this proved enough to earn for the Real Madrid star the Man of the Match award, too.
