A headline member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid is close to committing his long-term future to the club.

That’s according to The Athletic, who have on Wednesday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Spain’s capital.

The player on the verge of putting pen to paper on fresh terms? Andriy Lunin.

Negotiations between shot-stopper Lunin’s entourage and the Real Madrid brass have been ongoing since back in March.

As much of course comes amid a campaign which has seen the Ukrainian establish himself as an integral member of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad, in the absence of the sidelined Thibaut Courtois.

Lunin, all told, has racked up 29 appearances across all competitions, notching 12 clean sheets in the process.

Ahead of the expiration of his current terms in the summer of 2025, the powers that be at the Santiago Bernabéu have in turn long been pushing hard to find an agreement on the grounds of a renewal.

And, as per The Athletic, as much has now been all but secured:

‘Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin is close to agreeing a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2028,’ it is confirmed.

As a reward for his new-found prominence in the first-team setup in Spain’s capital, the 25-year-old is expected to see his salary significantly increased.
