Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois was on Tuesday asked for his take on the ongoing fallout stemming from his side’s showdown with arch rivals Barcelona over the weekend.

Real, and Barca, of course locked horns for the latest time on Sunday night.

In the final Clásico of the campaign, it was the former who ultimately emerged on the right side of a 3-2 result, in the process all but sealing the La Liga title.

Barcelona, however, were left livid following the full-time whistle at the Santiago Bernabéu, after seeing what they felt was a completely legitimate goal not awarded.

As much came upon youngster Lamine Yamal’s flick-on at the front post being shovelled out from the Real Madrid goal by Andriy Lunin.

With no goal-line technology to provide a definitive answer regarding whether of not the entirety of the ball had crossed the goal-line, the decision was in turn sent to the VAR team in charge in Spain’s capital.

And, following a lengthy check, it was ultimately concluded that sufficient evidence to prove as much could not be found.

Debate has since rumbled on over the near-48 hours since, with Barcelona having gone as far as to release an official statement, demanding all possible evidence of the incident, with a view to potentially requesting the Clásico be replayed.

During an exchange with the media on Tuesday, it therefore came as little surprise when a headline member of the first-team setup at Real Madrid was asked for his take on Barcelona’s ‘phantom goal’.

On his way out of Real’s Valdebebas training ground, Thibaut Courtois stopped in his car, to pose for photos with fans, and speak briefly to the press.

And, questioned on the drama at the Bernabéu on Sunday, the Belgian shot-stopper was diplomatic with his response:

“I’m not going to get into it, [but] it’s very easy to see with the technology…”
