A long-time member of the first-team setup at La Liga giants Real Madrid has confirmed his intention to stay put beyond the summer.

The player in question? Lucas Vázquez.

Versatile defender Vázquez, for his part, is fresh off another altogether productive performance late on Sunday night.

After being afforded a starting berth in Real Madrid’s La Liga meeting with Villarreal, Vázquez racked up a goal and an assist, from his berth at right-back.

As much served as yet another reminder of the importance of the 32-year-old in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Though he remains behind the first-choice Dani Carvajal in the defensive pecking order in Spain’s capital, Vázquez stands out as one of the most reliable backup performers in all of La Liga.

In turn, it will no doubt come as a source of excitement on the part of the Real Madrid faithful to hear that the club’s youth product is close to committing his future to the capital heavyweights for another season.

Speaking to the media at La Cerámica on Sunday, Vázquez was asked for the latest on his plans beyond the season’s close.

As much comes ahead of the imminent expiration of his contract.

And the former winger went on to reveal that negotiations over a renewal to his terms are moving in the right direction:

“I want to stay at Real Madrid. Negotiations for my renewal are going well.”
