Real Madrid star 1st, Barcelona in 4th: Europe’s best duel winners | OneFootball

A leading member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid led all midfielders in Europe’s top-5 leagues in duel percentage this past season.

That’s according to statisticians DataMD, who point towards Aurélien Tchouaméni as the player in question.

Former Monaco man Tchouaméni, fresh off a starring display for France in the Nations League on Sunday, played a starring role for Real Madrid once more this past season.

Featuring both at the base of Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield, and in the heart of defence amid an injury crisis, the 25-year-old racked up a hefty 52 appearances across all competitions, including 31 La Liga starts.

And as alluded to above, along the way, Tchouaméni maintained a world-class duel win percentage.

As revealed by DataMD, with 65.94%, the Frenchman managed the best duel win rate of any midfielder in Europe’s top-5 divisions.

Also featuring prominently on the list are another pair of La Liga stars, in Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong (4th) and Villarreal veteran Dani Parejo (5th).
