Of the several Real Madrid players who stood out in ensuring Atletico Madrid did not find a winner in the recently concluded second leg, one of the biggest difference-makers was perhaps Thibaut Courtois.
The Belgian star has been rock solid in goal for Los Blancos all season and continues to prove why he is the best in the business week in and week out. The game midweek was no different.
In 90 minutes, Courtois made seven saves including four from inside the box. All in all, he stopped an xG of 0.79.
Now, as relayed in a recent report by Defensa Central, the Real Madrid management and administration are pleased with Courtois’ level and wish to offer him a renewal to keep him at the club beyond his current deal.

The Belgian, at the moment, has a contract in place with Real Madrid until the summer of 2026 and the idea of Los Blancos is to extend it by one more year given Courtois’ high performance and consistency.
He may be 32 years of age already but it is well documented that goalkeepers can provide more years of quality than outfield players.
The player himself wishes to stay in Madrid for the years to come and is open to a renewal. However, the only factor that leaves the deal’s completion in doubt is the interest from Saudi Arabia where clubs are willing to offer him astronomical wages for his final ‘big’ contract.
Real Madrid are calm and will get the contract finalised and signed at the end of the season with all players currently having their single-minded focus on the objectives in hand.
Should Courtois opt to leave, they will back Andriy Lunin who is also one of the best in the world in his own right.
