Real Madrid have the signing of a new midfielder as one of their key objectives for the summer transfer window of 2025.
The Merengues are yet to find an effective way to cope with Toni Kroos’ retirement and with Luka Modric’s contract also expiring at the end of the season, a new midfielder is seen as a necessary signing.
As such, AS (h/t Mundo Deportivo) reports that Real Madrid have set their sights on Real Sociedad and Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi as a serious option.
Los Blancos are seeking a player with a profile similar to that of Xabi Alonso in the past or, more currently, Rodri at Manchester City, and have set their eyes on Zubimendi.

The 25-year-old is highly valued for his youth, ensuring many years of service, and the experience he has accumulated in recent seasons both at Real Sociedad and with the Spanish national team.
After all, Zubimendi played an important role in Spain’s victory in the most recent European Championship, offering a reliable alternative to Rodri.
However, Real Madrid face significant competition for his signature, as the midfielder has caught the attention of several top European clubs.
In the summer, he was linked with Arsenal, and particularly with Liverpool. Now, following Rodri’s injury, Manchester City, managed by Pep Guardiola, have turned their focus to Zubimendi.
In fact, the report states that it is possible they may attempt to sign him from Real Sociedad during the upcoming winter transfer window itself.
Zubimendi’s name was also mentioned in relation to Barcelona, although the club’s financial struggles make them a lesser threat in the race for his signature.
The midfielder is under contract with Real Sociedad until June 2027, and his release clause is set at €60 million, which would not be a problem for Man City.
So, it remains to be seen how things evolve in this transfer story as Zubimendi attracts interest from the Spanish and English champions.
