Villarreal are closing in on the €20 million signing of Real Madrid midfielder Óscar Rodríguez.
The 22-year-old, who has only appeared in competitive action for Real in the Copa del Rey, has spent the last two years on loan at Leganes.
Although he still has three years left to run on his deal at the Santiago Bernabéu, he is now set to exit.
That is according to a report in MARCA, which states that he is moving ever closer to completing a move to the Yellow Submarine.
Talks between all three parties over a deal have apparently accelerated of late, with Villarreal’s European participation being the decisive factor in convincing the player.
However, Los Blancos remain big fans of the player and have been hesitant about partying with him permanently.
If he does seal the anticipated move soon, it is expected that Real will include a buyback clause.
In addition, the potential €20m fee may be reduced on the condition that Real insert a large future sell-on percentage into the contract.
