According to journalist Jorge Picon, Real Madrid see Ajax defender Jorrel Hato as the ‘new David Alaba’ in their quest to reinforce the left-back position.
The 19-year-old Dutch international is one of the most admired profiles within the Madrid camp, owing to his exceptional versatility, maturity for his age, and tactical intelligence.
Hato’s profile fits Real Madrid’s ongoing transfer strategy perfectly—investing in young, adaptable players who can offer long-term value to the team.
Although primarily a left-back, the Ajax defender is equally comfortable playing in central defence, a trait that has drawn internal comparisons to David Alaba.
With the Austrian nearing the final phase of his Madrid career due to recurring injuries, the club is already preparing for a seamless succession plan, and Hato is seen as a promising candidate.
However, signing Hato will not be straightforward. His contract with Ajax runs until 2028 and does not include a release clause, which means any potential deal will require direct negotiations with the Dutch giants.

This adds complexity, especially since Chelsea are also in the race and reportedly considered the frontrunners for his signature from the Dutch perspective.
Real Madrid’s defensive situation has been under the scanner for a while. Neither Ferland Mendy nor Fran Garcia has consistently impressed, and reinforcements on the left side have become a pressing concern.
Unlike previous summers, where short-term solutions were pursued, Madrid now seem more focused on finding a long-term fix, and Hato’s age and skill set make him a logical candidate.
Interestingly, Madrid have made it clear that they will not engage in a bidding war for the player. As always, the club intends to move within a clearly defined financial framework and won’t be swayed by interest from other clubs.
If they decide to move forward with a formal offer, it will be based solely on their internal valuation rather than reactive negotiations against Chelsea or any other suitor.
Meanwhile, Hato’s camp is aware of the growing interest from top European clubs and is said to be monitoring the situation calmly.
While Chelsea may be leading the race for now, Real Madrid’s strategy of patience and planning could still put them in a strong position should they decide to act.
