Real Madrid remain keen on adding more bodies to their defensive department despite the recent acquisition of Dean Huijsen.
A move for Liverpool mainstay Ibrahima Konate could be on the horizon before the transfer window closes, especially if he does not renew his contract.
However, Los Blancos are keeping an eye on potential targets to further beef up the defensive line next year. After all, both David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger will be out of contract at the end of the season, and it is still uncertain whether they will be offered an extension.
As such, Fichajes reports that newly-appointed Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian ‘Cuti’ Romero has emerged as one of the major names on Real Madrid’s agenda for next summer.
The Spanish capital club’s strategy is to take advantage of the fact that the defender will enter the final year of his contract with Tottenham next summer, which would make it easier to negotiate his signing at a price below market value.

Internal reports on the 27-year-old Argentine international highlight his consistency and ability to perform in matches of the highest demand.
Real Madrid’s interest in Romero is not new. The sporting management has been following his performances in the Premier League and with the Argentine national team for some time.
His experience in England, combined with his international career, makes him a reliable reinforcement for a team aiming to maintain their dominance in both Spain and Europe.
However, for their part, Tottenham would not be keen to part with Romero, who is seen as a key part of the club’s plans for the future. But the Argentine’s contractual situation will force them to make important decisions.
The report, however, states that Romero would look favourably on leaving the Londoners to sign for the Spanish giants if an opportunity presented itself.
