Real Madrid sent scouts to watch Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-Min at 2022 FIFA World Cup

According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central (h/t Football London), Real Madrid sent scouts to the FIFA World Cup 2022 to watch Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-Min.

Son was the stalwart of the South Korean team who impressed everyone with their performances at the World Cup and qualified for the group stage, ahead of Ghana and Uruguay.

Particularly impressive was their performance in the must-win game against Portugal, which they rightly did with a winner assisted by Son right at the very end – by far his biggest contribution at the World Cup in Qatar.

The forward would have definitely left an impact on the Madrid scouts with his line-breaking pass for the second goal and although his team fell short in the Round of 16, they did way more than what was expected of them.

Since his transfer from Hamburg in the summer of 2015, and after an initial year of struggle in setting to his new environment, Son has gone from strength to strength and over the years has formed a formidable partnership with talisman Harry Kane.

Son has attracted interest previously as well due to the level that he has shown and even Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted his regret in not being able to sign the South Korea captain – although that was during his days in the Bundesliga.

Hence, a player of his ilk will always attract interest from top teams. However, it would be a rather difficult task for any team to prise the 30-year-old away from the Spurs given he still has two and a half years left on his deal (Transfermarkt).

Fabio Paratici, Antonio Conte and Daniel Levy are all aware of the importance of the player and just how important he is for us in our bid to break the trophy drought. Moreover, he is a name that has come to be associated with Spurs all over the world.

Letting him leave would send a poor message about the club’s aspirations and perhaps it is a bit dramatic to say it, but it would also be akin to selling a part of this club’s modern identity – one that is implausible to replace with money.
