According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid are beginning to reconsider their pursuit of Alvaro Carreras as financial concerns grow over Benfica’s €50 million valuation.
The hesitation has reignited the club’s long-standing dream of signing Alphonso Davies, a player they once came close to landing and still see as a marquee reinforcement for the left-back position.
Florentino Perez and Jose Angel Sanchez are currently focused on wrapping up the summer’s third major signing, with Dean Huijsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold already confirmed.
Carreras is next on the list, a highly regarded full-back whose signing has reportedly been agreed in principle. But the final details remain a sticking point.
Though Real Madrid rate Carreras highly, there is growing internal belief that the €50 million fee demanded by Benfica may be excessive, particularly for a young defender without extensive top-tier experience.
Madrid’s top brass are attempting to negotiate a reduced figure, but Benfica are proving stubborn. The situation is reminiscent of the Davies saga from last summer, when Bayern Munich’s asking price also stood at €50 million.

In that case, Madrid were only willing to go as far as €30 million. The deal collapsed, and Davies ultimately renewed his contract with Bayern.
However, the Canadian’s desire to eventually play for Real Madrid remains no secret, a factor that has reignited interest in his services behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Sources suggest that Real Madrid have not given up hope of one day bringing Alphonso Davies to Spain.
His desire to wear white, despite signing a new contract at Bayern, is reportedly fuelling fresh conversations at Valdebebas.
Madrid are weighing the long-term value of both players. While Carreras is seen as a promising and versatile full-back, Davies has already proven at the highest level, with Champions League and Bundesliga titles to his name.
If the price tag is similar, many at the club feel the Canadian international represents better value for money.
