Real Madrid ready to 'sacrifice' left-back to sign Alphonso Davies

Real Madrid intend to make room for potential summer signing Alphonso Davies by offloading current left-back Fran Garcia, reports in Spain claim.

Davies is on course to become a free agent when his Bayern Munich deal expires in the summer, eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with a new club from 1 January. Negotiations between the Canada international and the Bundesliga giants have failed to yield an agreement to date, with the sides too far apart over wages.

SPORT report that Davies already has a 'verbal agreement' in place with Madrid that would secure him the overall salary he wants. Between a proposed pay packet and the signing bonus the club could afford to pay him due to there being no transfer fee involved, Davies could land the equivalent of €18m per season. Bayern's best offer is believed to be €14m.

But in order for Davies to arrive, Madrid will likely need to make room in their squad - current left-back Fran Garcia, who largely acts as understudy to the more defensively sound Ferland Mendy, the player tipped to be made available.

It's claimed that the 15-time Champions League winners would be willing to listen to offers between €15m and €20m for Garcia, who turned 25 at the start of this season and joined Madrid's youth ranks more than a decade ago.

Madrid's alleged agreement with Davies was recently denied by the player's agent, but club sources still 'assure' that there is one in place.

The issue that Madrid could have is rival interest from Barcelona, with current Blaugrana coach Hansi Flick a factor, having given Davies his chance at Bayern in 2019. Barca would almost certainly be unable to compete on a financial level given their ongoing limitations.

As for Garcia, he made a single first-team appearance before a loan and then permanent transfer to Rayo Vallecano in 2020, before Madrid triggered a €5m buy-back clause three years later. He has made 44 appearances and counting since returning.
