Real Madrid recently hosted Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu for the second La Liga El Clasico of the season in a game that promised a lot, especially with the blaugranes chasing Carlo Ancelotti’s side in the league.

Madrid eventually came out victors 3-2 after a game marred with controversy and goals, with Jude Bellingham having the final say in the match with his 91st-minute winner.

However, the star of the show was a certain Lucas Vazquez, who took advantage of Joao Cancelo’s poor form and absolutely ran riot from the right-back position.

He won the penalty for Madrid’s first goal, scored the second, and assisted Bellingham’s winner in injury time. An absolute five-star display from the 32-year-old who proved he still has it in him.

And it looks like he will soon be rewarded for his efforts.

Madrid ready to offer Vazquez a one-year deal

According to a report published by COPE, Madrid are more than happy with Vazquez’s performances and his role, and are ready to offer him a one-year extension on his contract that expires this summer.

Serving as Daniel Carvajal’s deputy in the right-back role, Vazquez has two goals and four assists across 25 appearances – out of which just 12 have been starts.

And his performances against Celta Vigo and Barcelona, for example, have not gone unnoticed, and Madrid will adhere to their policy of one-year contracts for players over the age of 30 to offer him a new deal until 2025.

Vazquez is one of Madrid’s three Castilla graduates alongside Nacho and Daniel Carvajal who will have full say on their future if they want to stay at the club.

Madrid scouting replacements for 2025

With Daniel Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez both 32 right now, Madrid are already scouting potential replacements for the right-back position. While it is not a priority, they hope to lock down a name by the summer of 2025.

Manchester City’s Yan Couto has come up very high on the shortlist, while a surprise move for Trent Alexander-Arnold is not entirely out of question, either.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is also an option, and could arrive at the club at the same time as Xabi Alonso.
