ESPN provides an update on the Spanish-Moroccan winger’s situation and brings to light a breaking update in that the player has agreed on the terms of his renewal.

The manager factor

As relayed by the outlet, Diaz, who has a loan offer this summer, has indeed reached a complete agreement with Real Madrid to renew his contract in a long-term agreement and the deal can be made official in the coming weeks.

A key turning point in helping the player make his decision came when Xabi Alonso personally called the forward and explained to him the key role he would have in his plans.

Notably, this call happened even before the manager officially took over at Real Madrid.

Diaz was very satisfied with the vision and expectations the manager had of him and thus did not hesitate to agree on a renewal despite interest from several top European clubs.

PSG were notably interested in his signing last summer while he has several offers in the ongoing window as well, yet, he has always prioritised staying at the club and the manager’s stance acted as a massive catalyst.

Alonso gave the 26-year-old the start against Osasuna in Real Madrid’s first league game of the season and thus placed him above the likes of even Rodrygo on his pecking order.

The exact details of the renewal are yet to come to light, but it is clear that the Real Madrid offices and fans will rejoice at the development.
