Luka Modrić, winner of the Golden Ball at this summer’s World Cup, will not be leaving Real Madrid this summer.
Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has strongly reacted to reports linking Modrić, 32, with a move, insisting any club would have to pay the Croatian’s release clause to prise him away from the Spanish capital.
“The only possibility of leaving Modrić is paying 750 million euros,” Pérez told Marca.
Modrić’s contract runs for two more years and there’s little to suggest he is pushing to leave the Bernabéu.
Serie A club Inter had been strongly linked with an approach for the midfielder but there is no chance anyone coughs up his release clause.
Real Madrid still face the test of replacing Cristiano Ronaldo this summer and are expected to have a busy end to the transfer window. They don’t need the hassle of also trying to replace one of the world’s finest midfielders.
