Real Madrid prepared to tease Liverpool with £85m incentive in efforts to snare Trent – report

Real Madrid are reportedly prepared to dangle a carrot in front of Liverpool’s noses to try and persuade the Reds to part with Trent Alexander-Arnold.

There had been claims from Spanish news outlet Sport that, rather than waiting for the 26-year-old’s contract at Anfield to expire next summer so that they can land him on a free transfer, the Champions League holders could fast-track the proposed move to January due to Dani Carvajal’s knee ligament injury.

While James Pearce gave short shrift to such rumours, the Iberian presses certainly aren’t refusing any ink considering another report which has emerged.

Real Madrid proposing player-plus-cash deal

According to one Spanish outlet, Real Madrid have been preparing a paltry bid of around €25m (£20.9m) for Trent in January, but in the knowledge that such a figure won’t be able to sway Liverpool, they’re willing to throw in Aurelien Tchouameni in a prospective cash-plus-player deal.

The French midfielder – who joined from Monaco in a €100m (£85m) transfer in 2022 (Marca) – is considered disposable due to the nature of his recent performances, but Los Blancos have emphatically ruled out offering Rodrygo as bait to try and land the Reds’ vice-captain.

Good luck with that one, Real Madrid…

Even when taking into consideration Liverpool’s efforts to sign Tchouameni two-and-a-half years ago before he opted for Real Madrid, there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell that they’d agree to taking him and just over £20m for a player as crucial as Trent.

If indeed such a proposal is in the thinking of the Bernabeu hierarchy, they’d have some nerve trying to intimidate their Anfield counterparts into accepting such a lowball offer for our number 66, who’s an essential cog in the LFC machine.

As we’ve said many times over the past few weeks, here’s hoping the 26-year-old will agree a contract extension with his hometown club soon so that all the discourse and uncertainty over his future will finally be put to bed and we can get on with solely talking about his endeavours on the pitch.

As for these latest reports from Spain, we’d take them with a pinch of salt. It’s an international break outside the transfer window, after all…
