Real Madrid have emerged as one of the clubs eyeing a move for Josko Gvardiol in the coming future. The reigning European giants have been left impressed by the defender’s performances for Croatia in the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

Los Blancos are even ready to take on Chelsea and Barcelona in the race to sign the RB Leipzig defender, who has raised many eyebrows with his rock-solid performances at the back.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t RM4Arab) has now offered an update on the situation suggesting that Real Madrid are planning to come up with a fresh €90 million bid in their attempt to sign Gvardiol.

The Croatian international, though, has a contract at Leipzig until 2027 and it will not be easy for Real Madrid to lure him away from Germany just yet. In fact, the report suggests Leipzig are looking for a figure of around €100 million for the defender.

But it appears Real Madrid are confident of overcoming the negotiations and sign the Croatian on a deal worth €90 million. The Spanish giants, after all, can offer excellent sporting prospects for the versatile centre-back, along with a lucrative salary.

Madrid’s desire to sign Gvardiol in the first place also stems from a deep-rooted issue in the defensive unit, which is the lack of depth.

One of their most reliable defenders in Nacho Fernandez is facing an uncertain future at the club, as his contract expires at the end of the season. David Alaba is not getting younger either, meaning the addition of a new centre-back could be paramount.

That is where Gvardiol comes into the fray. The RB Leipzig star might prove to be an ideal long-term fix for the central defensive slot. In addition, he can play as a left-back, which makes him a potential alternative for Ferland Mendy, thus making him a smart investment option for Los Blancos.
