Real Madrid youngster Rafa Marin is held in the highest of regard within the club and has been tipped for a bright future. And, as per MARCA, the Merengues are planning to hand him a new contract at the earliest possible.

The 20-year-old has been on the club’s books since 2016 when he joined from the Sevilla youth academy. Having progressed through the ranks, the centre-back has grown into a mainstay at the heart of the Castilla defence over the past year.

So far, Marin has played 33 times for Raul Gonzalez’s side and has been a permanent fixture this season, bagging a goal in four matches.

However, given the plethora of options at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal in the senior team, the towering defender is yet to make his first-team debut.

Marin was linked with a move to Swiss club FC Basel in January earlier this year, but Los Blancos blocked the move.

The young central defender was also attracting interest from clubs such as Rayo Vallecano during the summer as well. But once again, Real Madrid denied him an exit as they want him to remain at the club for a long time.

To that end, the reigning champions of Spain and Europe will now hand him a new contract. Marin’s current deal stands to expire at the end of the ongoing campaign. And handing him an extension would be a good move from the club’s perspective, given the potential he possesses.

It will be interesting to see whether Marin gets his first-team breakthrough anytime soon. Irrespective of that, Real Madrid will continue to try and tie him down to a new contract.
