Real Madrid are on the verge of a ‘major squad overhaul’, according to the latest reports emerging from the Spanish capital.

With the coronavirus pandemic having a huge effect on the world of football, even superclubs like Real Madrid are having to budget ahead of an uncertain future.

And there will also be a move towards lowering the average age of the squad.

The Madrid sports daily says that six of the players who will see their contracts expire in 2022 will not be offered extensions.

Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Marcelo, Nacho, Dani Carvajal and Isco will all be allowed to leave the club once their deals expire in two years’ time.

President Florentino Perez is looking to totally rejuvenate the playing staff and will allow those veterans – who have served the club so well in the past – to leave for nothing.
